Give Your Child the Gift of Learning a Second Language

The Benefits of Learning a Language Other Than English

· Learning a LOTE (Language Other Than English) is an integral part of a broad and balanced education for all learners.
· There are cognitive and linguistic benefits in learning a second language. Children from both English and non-English speaking backgrounds develop greater awareness and understanding of linguistic operations.
· The experience of another language develops in children divergent think skills, enabling then to develop a more flexible approach to thinking and learning.
· Learning a community language helps a child acquire the means for greater and more meaningful interaction and communication with those from different cultural backgrounds.
· LOTE attempts to provide skills and knowledge students now need to prepare them for work and further learning in an increasingly information-rich world. It also provides for the development of workplace-related skills for a range of vocational opportunities.
· LOTE allows for a measure of personal fulfilment in using acquired knowledge and skills to communicate with a range of people in various situations
· Children’s cognitive linguistic and social development is enhanced thereby enriching their overall education
· Through LOTE a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse nature of our society is fostered.
